|
 |
Why use USPS® Certified Mail™?
When you need to get someone's attention, USPS® Certified Mail™ provides the sender with proof that the mail piece was delivered and signed for. By merging Certified Mail™ with Return Receipt service, the sender is provided a hard copy signature and date that is recognized in virtually any legal setting as proof of service.

Why use purchased Walz Certified Mailers© versus using the free forms provided by the USPS® (ROI)?
The reality is that "the forms provided by the USPS® are free but the labor to prepare them isn't." If you've ever sent something by Certified Mail™ you have spent a lot of time in the preparation of the necessary forms.
- Placed addressee's address on the mail piece.
- Write addressee's address on the Form 3800 Receipt For Certified Mail™
- Write contents information (ex: "2001 Tax Return") on the Form 3800 to cross identify the contents to the Certified Number. Filled out the postage on the Form 3800
- Write the sender's name or mail-stop code (or both) on the Form 3811 so that the mail center staff will know who to return the receipt to.
- Write addressee's address on the "Article To" field on the Form 3811 Return Receipt.
- Checked off the Certified Mail™ box on the Form 3811
- Write the 20 digit certified number on the Form 3811
- Write the sender's name or mail-stop code or both on the Form 3811 so that the mail center staff will know who and where to sort the Return Receipt to when it comes back thru the mail.
- Write contents information (ex: "2001 Tax Return") on the Form 3811 to cross identify the contents to the Certified Number.
- Write, stamp or place a label on the back of the Form 3811 Return Receipt with the address the Form 3811 is to be mailed to after delivery of the item.
- Mail center staff: rewrite all of the above information into the USPS® form 3877 "Firm Mailing Book"
Walz Certified Mailers© are used in an automated and quasi-automated environment whereby over 75% of the labor is eliminated. It is estimated that the preparation steps cost about $1.50 in labor. The cost of the Walz Certified Mailers© is significantly less than $1.50. In other words, they provide a significant return on investment and mistakes are minimized. Additionally, with the advent of the new 20 digit numbers, the return on investment is even greater.

What kind of automation is needed?
-
If you are in a decentralized environment whereby the sender is preparing one or two items at a time, a macro (provided by Walz for free) is used to fill out and print a Walz Certified Mailer© locally using the bypass tray of a laser printer. If you send batches of Certified Mail™ at one time, then your own automation is often used to prepare the Walz Certified Mailer© forms. Walz can provide information on how to use your own technology. If you send batches of Certified Mail™ at one time, you can purchase the WPS2000 software in either single user or multi-user configuration to prepare the Walz Certified Mailer© forms, print the USPS® Form 3877 (computerized) Firm Mailing Book and process the returned green cards.
- If you need a complete Print To Mail solution with the Walz Pressure Seal Certified Mailers©, Walz can provide sources for pressure seal type equipment or provide the names of outsource companies that can provide a service using Walz forms.
